SUSTAINABILITY
Did you know that over 40% of carbon emissions come from the real estate sector? At Court & Case, we take great pride in lessening our environmental impact and protecting the natural environment that we all enjoy. Many investments and operational procedures have been implemented in order to make this campus eco-friendly and energy efficient. We want your tenancy here to be enjoyable, productive, and sustainable for the future.
EV Charging Stations
EV charging stations are available in both Court and Case parking lots. Providing EV charging stations at the workplace as amenities will attract top talent who are environmentally conscious and comfortable with cutting edge technology. Having EV charging stations with renewable energy means your employees will not only have a smaller carbon footprint at work, but on the road as well.
Stormwater Basins
A significant portion of the Court & Case parking lot provides 100% on-site, stormwater management. Rocks and plants have been installed at strategic intervals to naturally filter rainwater prior to its arrival at the aquifer. In this way, rather than going to a treatment plant, water is filtered on site.
Bike Storage With Showers
Bike racks and storage facilities encourage staff to cycle to work, save them the hassle of searching for a parking space, and make their commute more enjoyable. Court & Case offers both on-site bike storage and complementary showers, which helps reduce the number of cars on the road.
Low-Flow Faucets and Toilets
Court & Case features a combination of low-flow faucets and toilets, a system designed to significantly reduce the amount of water needed to channel waste through the plumbing system. Low-flow faucets also save incrementally on gas or electric costs for heating less hot water.
Organics Recycling
In addition to traditional recycling, Court & Case offers organics recycling. Organics, such as food scraps and coffee grounds, are collected and brought to a compost facility where the material is made into compost. Court & Case also uses biodegradable garbage bags. Biodegradable garbage bags are made from bioplastics or other plant-based starches and materials. They break down faster than traditional garbage bags and do not release micro-plastics into the environment.
Energy Efficient HVAC
In 2018, Court was fitted with high efficiency boilers and high efficiency cooling towers. The team removed the atmospheric, low-efficiency boiler for a condensing, high efficiency boiler. Upgrades also included
- Belimo valves for reduced core pumping requirements
- heat pumps
- VFD’s for precision cooling loads
Rooftop Solar
Court International is powered by clean, renewable energy by use of a 340KW roof-mounted solar array. At the time of its installation, it was the largest rooftop array in all of St. Paul. In 2008, Court International used 18,500 kWh/day. In 2021, that number had fallen to only 7,541 kWh/day!
Energy Efficient Lighting
All of Court & Case has been fitted with LED lighting fixtures and daylight harvesting techniques. Also many strategies are utilized to lower electricity usage in areas of the building that are not occupied. This includes occupancy sensors, dimming capabilities, scheduling, and/or adaptive compensation.
Mixed Recycling
Recycling stations can be found in all common areas of Court & Case. Mixed recycling is a combination of paper, plastic, metal and glass that, after collected, is sorted at the city’s recycling facility. Receptacles are found in high traffic areas, such as near restrooms and collaborative seating.
High Efficiency Skylights
The Court & Case campus has been fitted throughout with several high efficiency skylights. They are designed to maximize the use of daylight during the day and decrease the property’s dependence on electricity. These state-of-the-art skylights filter out UV light and control heat transfer without the need for special tints or coatings. They are also energy efficient; the energy transmitted does away with “hot spots” and condensation problems common in lower-grade materials.
